Marble, being porous, is susceptible to staining and scratching, especially when exposed to acidic substances. To protect the delicate surface of marble, it is essential to use gentle, non-abrasive cleaning techniques. Here are 3 tips for cleaning your marble tabletop.

For efficient cleaning of your marble table, prepare the following tools and materials

  • Soft, lint-free microfiber cloths
  • Mild dish soap
  • Soft bristle brush or toothbrush

1. Clean the Table Top

Before cleaning a marble table, clear the surface, wipe with a dry cloth to remove dust and debris to avoid scratching during cleaning.

2. Damp Cleaning

Wipe the table top with a damp microfiber cloth to remove dust and dirt. For tough stains, add mild dish soap to water. Rinse the cloth frequently to avoid residue buildup.

Additional Tips for Removing Stubborn Stains

Organic Stains (coffee, wine, food): Clean with a damp cloth, if the stains are stubborn apply a paste of acetone and baking soda, cover overnight with plastic wrap, then rinse. Or use a paper towel soaked in bleach and left for 24 hours.

Oil-based Stains (grease, makeup): Wipe with a paper towel, clean with a pH-neutral cleaner, scrub gently, rinse with distilled water, and dry thoroughly. Alternatively, create a paste with acetone and baking soda, leaving it overnight.

Ink: To remove ink stains, dampen a cloth with acetone, gently dab the area, rinse with water, and dry with a dry cloth.

Etch Marks: To restore etched marble, use a marble polishing powder or seek professional refinishing for severe damage.

3. Avoid Acidic & Abrasive Substances

To prevent corrosion on marble surfaces, refrain from contact with acidic substances such as citrus juices, vinegar, or wine. Employ coasters, placemats, or plastic covers, and choose pH-neutral cleaning products for maintenance.
